Five programs, one goal: bring joy safely to kids who need it.

Our volunteer cosplayers are the heart of KausePlay. Every volunteer completes a background check, character-conduct training, and safety-and-hygiene protocols before they ever meet a child, so families and hospitals can trust who is walking through the door.

Once trained, our volunteers visit children’s hospitals, appear at family events, staff SafeCon, and respond to individual character requests from families. Whether it’s a superhero at a bedside, a princess at a birthday, or a familiar face during a long treatment day, our team shows up in character and in service.

KausePlay Con is our public-facing convention: an all-ages celebration of cosplay, fandom, and creativity that anyone can attend. It’s where fans meet, artists share their work, and the wider community learns what KausePlay does.

It’s also our most important recruitment moment. Every ticket sold and every cosplayer who walks the floor helps us grow the volunteer network that powers our hospital visits and SafeCon. Attend the con, and you’re helping build the community that will show up for kids all year long.

SafeCon is the reason KausePlay exists. It’s a small-crowd, sensory-aware convention designed from the ground up around the needs of immunocompromised children. That means lower attendance caps, thoughtful hygiene practices, quiet spaces, and characters trained to interact gently, patiently, and safely.

Many families cannot attend crowded public events because of a diagnosis, a treatment schedule, or a compromised immune system. At SafeCon, they get to experience the same joy of a comic-con weekend on their terms. Every design choice, from the layout to the lighting, is made with these kids in mind.

Cosplay can be expensive, and children who spend a lot of time in hospitals or in treatment often don’t have the same access to it as their peers. The KausePlay Closet changes that.

Through the Closet, kids and families can access costumes, wigs, and accessories to become the characters they love. Through workshops, they can learn to make cosplay pieces themselves. Because being the hero isn’t a spectator sport, and every kid deserves to try on the cape.

Behind every character visit is a family that reached out, told us their child’s story, and trusted us with a special moment. Our Family Services team handles those requests with warmth and care, coordinating character choices, timing, safety considerations, and any accommodations a child may need.
